Firekeeper Gathering 2024: Pontresina

Pontresina, Switzerland.

Firekeepers tend to the living flame at the heart of our inquiry into a culture of care and kinship rooted in radically shared aliveness. Like the keepers of an ancestral hearth, they help sustain the field of care and responsibility, ensuring that the space honours the interdependence of all beings.

Firekeepers come together as a body once a year to form a physical Firekeeper Circle. Throughout the year we gather online, tending to the flame. At the yearly gatherings, through facilitated experiences, deep listening, and embodied reflection, we track, deepen and strengthen the collective practices and capacities that form the preconditions for a culture of care and kinship – evolving towards radically shared aliveness.

The 2024 gathering marked the third in-person coming-together of the World Ethic Forum’s Firekeeper Circle, returning once more to Pontresina, beneath the dragon-shaped mountain range and the peak of Piz Padella. The year’s topic was ‘the heart of change’, and the central question was how to converge across deep differences: how to hold complexity and beauty at once, and how to treat tension not as a threat to be removed but as a vital force in collective transformation.

Held within a richly artful space, shaped by more-than-human presence as much as human intention, 2024 was a year both of friction and flourishing. Much of the gathering was given to weaving the relational fabric of a pluriverse, including diverse voices, and engaging in the sometimes painful work of naming privilege and historical wounds. This was also where our inquiry gained clearer shape: four collective fields of practice, noted the year before, grew into a constellation of seven.

• Celebrating Radically Shared Aliveness
• Cultivating & Enlivening a Shared Ecosystem Understanding
• Shedding Light on Less Visible Structural Dynamics / Root Causes
• Transformative Practices: Surrender, Letting Go, Openness
• Looking at Our Wounds
• Metabolising / Alchemy / Learning
• Being With — Coholding in Uncertainty and Turbulence
