Dear Fire, I bring my grief to you

Dear Fire, I bring my grief to you.
I bring my fears, my desires, my wants.
I bring my everything to you.

You see everything, you can feel everything, you know everything.
I come to you to be my refuge.

I don’t even know if the straw that I put in the fire is anything to you.

I want you to free me.
I want you to free me, on how I will feel when I leave this Earth.

Give me something that I can chew.
What is my chewable responsibility?
Something I can take on.
With the time I have.
With the resources I have, with the needs of myself and my community.
Give me something to chew.

Tell me it will be okay.
Tell me it will be fine.

See us, guide us
Show us the direction.
I sit with you.

Here is my straw.

I don’t know if I’ll be enough.
I don’t know if my straw will be enough.
But it has to be.

Because that’s what we have right now.
Give me a chewable responsibility.

These words came to Nahom while witnessing at the Council of the Firekeeper Gathering 2026, in Brackenhurst, Kenya.
