Nile Journeys

Nile Journeys is a bioregional platform dedicated to fostering regeneration across the Nile Basin. Rooted in the belief that ecological renewal and social healing are inseparable, it connects communities along the river to co-create life-affirming actions. Through participatory learning spaces, hands-on restoration, and cultural remembrance, Nile Journeys nurtures ecological resilience, inclusive leadership, and intergenerational knowledge-sharing.

At the heart of Nile Journeys is a deep trust in the living systems of the Nile, the water, the land, and the communities who depend on them. The organization’s name itself, NILE: Nurturing Impulses for Living Ecosystems, speaks to this pulse of regeneration. These “impulses” are the natural forces within ecosystems and cultures that move toward renewal, healing, and harmony. Nile Journeys creates spaces for these impulses to flourish, guided by indigenous wisdom, systemic awareness, and a worldview of connection rather than division.

We nurture regeneration through co-creative learning, cultural renewal, and ecosystem restoration, weaving together community resilience, gender equity, youth leadership, and indigenous knowledge. Our programs and partnerships span from land regeneration and food sovereignty to peacebuilding, women’s leadership, and arts-based cultural revival, each a reflection of our guiding principles of Ubuntu, Rootedness (Siro), Companionship (El Mogren), and Integrity (Nnalubaale).

As co-organizer of Kaya 2026, Nile Journeys brings the bioregional pulse of practice into this global gathering. While the World Ethic Forum (WEFo) holds the inquiry into radically shared aliveness, Nile Journeys grounds it in African soil and lived experience, connecting global participants to the land, communities, and regenerative movements flourishing across the Nile Basin.

Through Kaya 2026, Nile Journeys is not only co-hosting the festival, but also rooting its next chapter in Kenya, establishing a long-term base for learning, collaboration, and regeneration. The gathering serves as both a milestone and a seed: a moment to deepen relationships between global networks and East African practitioners, and a starting point for a new cycle of bioregional engagement.

Here, the spirit of the Kayas, sacred spaces of governance, reflection, and renewal among the Mijikenda peoples of coastal Kenya, meets Nile Journeys’ vision of sanctuaries for the future: places where community, culture, and ecology thrive together. The Kayas remind us that regeneration is not an abstract ideal, but a lived practice — a way of tending to the invisible roots that sustain life.

Kaya 2026 becomes a living expression of Nile Journeys’ work: where dialogue turns to practice, where art and ecology meet, and where regeneration becomes something felt, shared, and celebrated. Through this collaboration, Nile Journeys invites local and global partners to experience how African wisdom and place-based learning can renew our collective imagination.

By joining Kaya 2026, participants and partners step into the larger journey of Nile Journeys, one that continues beyond the event, across rivers, cultures, and generations, toward a regenerative Nile Basin and a world alive with connection.
